Channels and rubber blades are two of the components that have the greatest impact on the performance of a window squeegee. A clean, straight rubber blade in good condition helps remove water evenly, while a worn or damaged rubber blade can leave lines or water residue on the glass.

Types of Window Squeegee Rubber Blade

Soft Rubber — a soft rubber blade that adapts well to low temperatures and slightly uneven surfaces. Its greater flexibility makes it a popular choice for many cleaning jobs.

Hard Rubber — a harder rubber blade, particularly suitable for high temperatures and smooth surfaces, where it maintains its firmness more effectively.

Power Rubber — a Unger replacement rubber blade with a different formulation designed for professional use. Check the product details to confirm the compatible measurements and channels.

Green Label Rubber — a professional medium-hardness rubber blade made from natural rubber sourced from FSC-certified sources and designed for use throughout the year.

When should the rubber blade be replaced?

It should be replaced when it starts to leave water lines repeatedly, develops cuts or nicks, loses its uniformity or no longer glides correctly.

Its lifespan depends on frequency of use, surface dirt, the pressure applied and care of the tool. There is no fixed replacement schedule that applies to all professionals.

Channels for Window Squeegees

The channel is the component that holds the rubber blade and attaches to the handle. It should be selected according to the system, width and type of handle being used.

  • S Channel: stainless steel channel compatible with various Unger handles for traditional window cleaning.
  • S Plus Channel: stainless steel channel with specific end clips for working close to frames.
  • Green Label Channel: stainless steel channel fitted with Green Label rubber.
  • ErgoTec Ninja Channel: specific aluminium channel for the Ninja handle, with TriLoc system and SmartClip end clips.
  • Brass Channel: designed for compatible handles in traditional brass systems.

Channel Compatibility

S and S Plus channels belong to the ErgoTec system and can be used with different compatible handles.

The ErgoTec Ninja channel uses a different system and is designed specifically for the Ninja handle. It should not be considered interchangeable with an S or S Plus channel.

What width do I need?

The width should be selected according to the size of the glass, the handle being used and the measurements available for each system.
